Hey Gang, Jill here. Just thought I’d pop in super quick to talk to you. All week long in my challenge group we’ve been educating one another on the benefits of water.
How many of us when it comes that time of day in the middle of the afternoon get that slumpy feeling? You know what I mean, by 3 or 4 a clock you feel like you’re dragging. So many people turn to coffee, sweets or sugar. But you know what? Water has so many health benefits one of which is an energy booster 😉
Our bodies are over 60% water. And our brain needs water to function. You know a lot of times when we get into that slump in the middle of the afternoon where you can’t return another e-mail and your brain is full of a fog…a lot of the time it’s because we’re dehydrated. We haven’t given it enough fluids. Especially those of you that work out in the morning. You go to the gym, you work out and then what do you do? You drink a cup of coffee. And what does caffeine do? It dehydrates the body. And then you’re even more behind the 8 ball.
And ladies I know…it makes us want to go to the bathroom initially. But I promise you if you stick with drinking enough water on a regular basis our bodies adapt and get used to it. Our kidneys NEED water to function. One of the leading causes of kidney stones is because we don’t have enough fluids or water in our body to flush the toxins out of our system. Our blood is over 90% water so if you’re dehydrated, the blood becomes thicker and it becomes harder for it to pump through the system. What does that do? It could raise our blood pressure.
So can drinking water lower your blood pressure?
Well, it’s not as simple as that but in a lot of ways, yes, you can! It affects our skin—and for those of us in that higher age category–it makes a huge difference in our skin. Our skin is already drying out. Our collagen levels aren’t working as effectively. And then on top of it we dehydrate ourselves?
Just drink water. And it’s awesome when it comes to weight loss. Now is it the magical cure? No. But if I could only give you one tip right now on losing weight it would be to drink water. Why? Because it helps satiate us, it helps fill us up and it helps with all of our bodily functions. It also increases our energy levels and has ZERO calories, which is going to help with the weight loss if you swap the sugary drinks for water.
Now, remember, it’s not the magic cure. So how much should you drink?
Well, doctors tell you to drink eight, 8oz glasses of water a day. But although it’s a good start, everyone is different. It goes by body weight. Someone who weighs 150 lbs. vs 250 lbs is going to need a different amount of water.
A good rule of thumb is to take the amount of weight you have and divide it by 2. So if you’re 150 lbs, you’d drink 75 oz. of water a day. And again, if you’re an athlete or you sweat more on a daily basis or live in a warmer climate than drink MORE than that.
So…use the water instead of the coffee, sugary drinks or sodas. At least give it a try 😉
Have an awesome day and drink up!!
