I just finished teaching a boot camp to my amazing clients and it got me thinking—they were really struggling with getting enough fluids in. So we went over a few little guidelines on water and I thought, “You know what? How many of us don’t really even how much we should be drinking?”
So I decided to talk to you here today a little about what water does for us. So here we go!
First off, ideally, you want to start off by taking your weight and dividing it by 2 and drink that amount of water.
So for example, if you are 150 pounds, if you divide that by 2 then you’re looking at drinking about 75 ounces per day. And I know for some of us its like ” I hate the taste of water! I just don’t like to drink it.” I’ve got some suggestions here for you, but first I want to share some things to remember:
Our bodies are over 60% water. So when we start to feel sluggish or tired or achy, or sometimes just in a crappy mood, sometimes it’s just because we’re dehydrated! And remember, by the time you’re thirsty, you’re already very dehydrated.
Ideally in the morning when you get up you should drink a glass of water. Why? Because you’ve gone how many hours at night without drinking anything? So your body is already in a little bit of a dehydrated state. And water just gets everything flowing. Water is going to flush out all the toxins in our body because it helps our kidneys. That’s what our kidneys do, they get rid of all that stuff in our systems. So by adding water or drinking water regularly, that’s going to help our kidneys function better, which helps get rid of the toxins.
- Water can help boost metabolism.
- It can help boost mood.
- It can aid in weight loss.
- It gets everything flowing if you know what I mean 😉
And yes I get it that initially, it might mean you’re taking a lot of pee breaks. But our bodies need it. Our brains need it! Cartilage is over 80% water so for those of us with issues with joints, it’s so important that we hydrate our bodies. It’s not just about keeping our bodies cooler, which water does, but it is really really good for us too!
So don’t be afraid to drink some. And for those of us who don’t really love the taste or tired of it, I have to tell you that I get tired from time to time of drinking water too! So what I do is, I mix up a bunch of different concoctions and see what I like. So right now mason jars are like the in thing. Everybody that’s cool drinks out of a mason jar 😉 You can get a fancy infuser if you want, but I just use mason jars.
So I use lemons, which are great for anti-inflammatory and loaded with Vitamin C. I also use ginger which is good for those of us with joint issues. Mint is also really good for inflammation and I just throw all that in. And sometimes I add mineralize into my distilled water (yes, I’m one of those crazies that drinks distilled!) and then I just fill the mason jar up and throw it in the fridge and let it get cold. And when I’m thirsty, I just go and grab.
And if you’re on the road or in the office, they make some great organic not concentrate juices that you can just keep in a fridge and add them to your water. They make lemon, they make lime, they make pomegranate. It’s great for giving our water flavor.
So remember to always get your water in! Keep those bodies flushing out. It’s going to help with weight loss and feeling great overall! xoxo
