Do you like what you see when you look in the mirror?
I can totally relate after just finishing up treatment for thyroid cancer and gaining 20 pounds, there isn’t much about my body that I like right now. So how do you go about changing that body image of yourself?
I’d like to give you a few tips because if you’re really suffering from poor body image or not liking what you see in the mirror, you’re not going to be your best self.
So my first tip is to find one thing that you can look at when you look at yourself in the mirror and honestly say that you’re okay. And you might need to start with your eyebrows, or your eyelashes or your smile. Whatever that is, the first tip is to focus in on that. Every time you go to look in the mirror, look at that one thing that you can honestly say “I like that about myself!”
And the second thing I can say is that if you’ve put on a few extra pounds and you’re like me and refusing to go out and buy a larger size pair of jeans or whatever it may be, treat yourself! It doesn’t mean that you’re going to stay there. But when you put on an outfit, you need to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. For me personally, these calves will never fit in skinny jeans. It’s just not in the cards! So I need to find what outfit works for my body type.
So dress for YOUR body type. Find a color that you love on you that looks good on you. And maybe it means engaging a couple of friends and saying “Hey, what colors do you think look good on me?” And just getting one or two outfits that you can put on and own. So that when you look in the mirror you’re seeing two things—that one thing that you focus in on every day that you can honestly say that you’re okay with. And then you have an outfit that you FEEL good in.
And rock that outfit! Change it up. Accessorize it! We as women (and guys I know you go through this too) we need to feel good about ourselves before we can really work on ourselves. I know that sounds silly, but it might just be a shirt—the shirt I’m wearing says “Thankful, grateful, blessed” Every time I pop in the mirror and see that it reminds me that you know what? I am blessed! I do still have my health. I am grateful. I am thankful!
We struggle with body image all the time. Society tells us we need to be a size 2. Well, let me tell you, maybe 2% of the population is that way. The rest of us have curves. We’re still going to have the bellies if we’ve had babies. Can we make them better? Absolutely! Can we make our legs more toned? Absolutely!
But feel good with who you are RIGHT NOW. Find that one thing that you can say you like about yourself and focus in on that. I struggle every day with body image and have since I was a kid. Some days are better than others. Some times are better than others.
So I am choosing myself to take those two tips. And focus on the two things that I can like about myself and I hope you’ll try it too!
Remember, I’m here for you. If you need any help at all with just liking who you are, changing up the body, comment below and let me know what you’re struggling with!
We’re all in this together. Stronger as we are when we do it TOGETHER xoxo
