Why It’s Not Always About The Number On The Scale

Hey Gang! Jill here. Happy Friday! You know, it’s the weekend and those of us that have been struggling with our weight loss or just getting healthier and trying to make a difference in our health—I just wanted to share something with you today:

It’s not always about the numbers on the scale.

And this is why I do what I do. This is why I love what I do. This is why I’m passionate. This is why no matter what the naysayers say to me, I’m never going to stop doing what I do. Continue reading “Why It’s Not Always About The Number On The Scale”

One Important Tip For Spring Cleaning Your Health

So now that the closet is officially done, now I’m left with the dilemma of what to do with all the clothes that no longer suit me, bring me joy or fit or are even in style. So my question to all of you is what are you: Are you a bag person? Or Are you a box person?

And yes, it does relate to our health because think about what we eat on a daily basis. Are you someone who eats from a bag or eats from a box? Because if you are either of those two things, one of my tips this week for you for spring cleaning your health and spring cleaning your eating would be to lose the bag or the box. 5 Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 4

Hey, gang! It’s Day 4 of our challenge Now there were a couple of questions that I got this week, so I just want to address those before we get started. One of the first ones that I’m starting to see is that some of you are finding it hard to keep your core engaged. Well first off, just the fact that you’re aware of engaging your core, that’s huge and awesome! But especially as a beginner starting out, don’t expect to be able to hold the core engaged the entire time. That really does take a lot of muscle recruitment and will improve over time 😉

One of the suggestions that I have to help with that is to start by practicing. If you’re in a car, and you’re at a stoplight, visualize and engage the core by pulling your belly button towards your spine. So it’s not one of those, I’m going to turn sideways, conscious things where you do one of those. It’s more of just a gentle pulling in, and you feel the deep transverse abdominals engage. That only time that that muscle actively recruits on its own is when we sneeze, cough, or vomit. Honestly, we don’t really do that, I hope, a heck of a whole lot! So those muscles need to be trained to engage on a regular basis. Continue reading “5 Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 4”

5-Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 3

Hey, gang! Here in New England, it has been a crazy day, but thankfully we never lost power in this snow storm!

Before we get started, there are three things I want to address. One is to be gentle with yourself. Some of you guys might be really coming down hard on yourself for being out of shape, or not eating healthy. It’s one day at a time. Progress, not perfection. You’ll get there. The hardest part you have already done, and that’s just getting started.

Also, we’re all on the same journey. We’re all in different places. Some are more advanced, some are not as advanced. Some are more beginners. Some are at their weight goal, some are not. So let’s all just be supportive of one another! That’s what this is all about; offering encouragement, support, and accountability. Continue reading “5-Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 3”

5 Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 2

Day number two of butts and guts is here!

Just a quick reminder: We’re all on different parts of our journey here. There are some people that are more advanced, some people that are working their way through fitness, and some that are just beginning. Me personally, I am working my way back after recently being diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and having to take a backseat with my workouts with medication, and all that fun stuff.

So now it’s time for today’s workout. Here we go! Continue reading “5 Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 2”

5 Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 1

Hey, gang. I am so excited to share our first official workout for the Free Five Day Butts and Guts Challenge. The main thing behind this challenge is working our core, our butts, and our guts. Believe it or not, we use our core all the time. Think about it, every time you go to tie your shoe, you pick something up off the floor, you turn around to look at something, your core is engaged. When you sit in a chair. Even when you’re just standing still.

Now I’m going to throw a question out to each one of you watching right now. Is your core engaged? Ah, did you just pull it all in? 😉 Continue reading “5 Day Butts and Guts Challenge: Day 1”

Brownie Batter Overnight Oats

STOP THE PRESSES!

A dessert that is Yummy AND good for you too?

Come on… yeah right.

Well, allow me to let you in on a little secret. This is REALLY as good as it looks and it isn’t even a dessert (although it certainly could be) 😉

I am not going to lie to you, I LOVE CHOCOLATE!  There I said it!  It almost feels liberating to just get it off my chest, but honestly, I have chocolate every single morning for breakfast and have for almost 5 years now. So when I saw this recipe I just had to give it a try and I promise when you are done reading this you are going to want to as well ;).

The RAI Experience

Being told to go to your room use to be a punishment…. A punishment as kids we would hear pretty often!

Now as I am older I often thought of what it would be like to be “sent to your room” never really expecting to have it actually come to fruition.  Boy it is NOT what I imagined at all! (Well ok maybe the binge TV watching was)

One of the therapy treatments for thyroid cancer is to have what is called RAI- radioactive iodine.  It is administered in this BRIGHT blue pill (not too bad) then the patient is sent home or sequestered to a hospital room depending on the dose prescribed.  I am one of the lucky ones that got to do “my time” at home. 3 Day Cleanse Review

Did Summer get you too?

After way too much eating, drinking, and traveling I felt like a tick. Swollen and puffy and knew that I had to get my diet in check. I hate using the word diet because it conjurs up so many negative thoughts, but by diet I really mean eating healthy again. I needed to focus on getting rid of sugar, processed foods and last but definitely not least alcohol and the best way for me to do that is with the 3 day refresh.

The 3 Day Refresh is exactly what the name sounds like, it’s a 3 day cleanse, that you act
ually get to still eat REAL food while cleaning out our bodies, no crazy running to the bathroom type of cleanse.. LOL! You still eat and you see results quickly, that is my type of program! Here is a review of my last 3 days:

The Importance of Putting Yourself First

Have you ever felt overwhelmed, to the point that you just don’t know what to do next? You don’t know where to turn, where to go to help yourself, to take care of you? Years ago this was me. After suffering years of sexual abuse, I was this invisible person that had no sense of self worth,  I believed that my voice didn’t matter, that I didn’t matter and my confidence was non existent.

I was in college an all time low in my life when I found exercise as a means of, for lack of a better word, escape initially. For that one hour in a fitness class I felt that I mattered, that I was important, that somebody cared about me. At the end of class there was always that vivacious instructor that would say have a great day, and made me feel good about who I was as a person. I went back day after day not for the exercise as much as it was for that feeling of acceptance, for someone believing that I was a somebody, a person!
